Michael Skorulski from Cigel, SlovakiaA really nice nature shot, Wolfgang. You've captured such beautiful colors. Lovely. 10 Jan 2008 5:26am @Michael Skorulski: Michael, the photo is not by me but by Johanne Prescott. We at vu@granby are a group of 36 photographers that only post photos of our city. Our blogmaster is Gilles Daigneault and I help with the communications. To find out more you can go to our "about" page. I'm glad you like Johanne's photo of this majestic bird, @paola veneziani photography: Grazie in nome di Johanne, ManuelaR from Hainburg, GermanyCongrats for this awesome catch with such vibrant colours! 10 Jan 2008 9:29am @ManuelaR: Vielen Dank für das Kompliment, @eddy: Thank you, @Sandra Rocha: Obrigado, medam961 from Sarajevo, Bosnia and HerzegovinaHow you managed to take such a lovely photo? That woodpecker reminds me of the most famous one from the cartoons. We over here call it “Pera Djetlić” :-)) Great shot; I simply love it! 10 Jan 2008 11:01am @medam961: These woodpeckers are pretty big, a lot bigger than European woodpeckers. They are very colorful and noisy. Thank you for your comment, Bruno Simard from CanadaSuperbe photo Johanne, belle couleurs. Is that a piliated woodpecker, it looks so big. 10 Jan 2008 3:01pm @leslie: Yes Leslie, it is a pileated woodpecker. Johanne caught it just outside her house feeding on her suet and grains feeding station. Levine from Kuala Lumpur, MalaysiaLike the way u compose it and the part where u tilt the camera. And may i know what is that bird eating? 10 Jan 2008 3:15pm @Levine: Thanks for the comment of Johanne's photo. It is feeding on suet and grain that Johanne has outside her house to attract birds. @Gilles M.: Merci Gilles, Scarabaeus from Manchester, United KingdomInteresting bird what kind of woodpecker is it? 10 Jan 2008 8:05pm @Scarabaeus: In French it's called pic majeur or grand pic, in English it's a pileated woodpecker. They can become pretty big, between 40 t0 50 cm, and they live from the southern Yukon all the way to the southern tip of Florida, anywhere there are forests. @Ale Triskele: Mille grazie Ale! Daroru from Amagasaki, JapanExcellent, full image. Nice and close for great detail. 10 Jan 2008 10:38pm @Daroru: Thank you very much! @badala: Obrigado badala! @Witchpanther: Grazie, è un uccello fantastico.
